How to use Freemind

Using Freemind

This page shows how to the mind mapping tool called Freemind which is on the laptops.

  1. When Freemind is started it has the default key idea in the middle. Click on the key idea to edit it to become your key idea.
  2. Use the insert key to add an idea to the main idea.
  3. Hover the mouse over an idea to select it and so add extra levels.
  4. Similarly change the position of an idea by hovering over an idea and holding the Control key down while pressing an arrow key
  5. Toggle to Collapse or expand an idea by clicking on the idea.
  6. Link ideas by hovering over one idea (to be linked), then holding the Control and shift keys while dragging from the hovered idea to the idea to be linked to.

Mind maps can be shared, or annotated using the icons shown on the left.
